Day 1: Welcome to Spain
Hola! Welcome to Spain!
Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting at 7 pm tonight in Seville-the capital of Andalusia, situated on the lower reaches of the River Guadalquivir. If you arrive early, maybe see some of the city's cultural landmarks like Real Alcazar and Plaza de Espana, take a boat trip on the Guadalquivir River or visit Barrio Santa Cruz. After your welcome meeting, join your group for an included welcome dinner as you explore the city on a tapas crawl, sampling the best of local Andalusian cuisine.
Accommodations: Nua Santiago 15 or similar
Special Information:
If you are going to be late please let your host know.
Day 2: Wonder, Wander, and Dance Through Seville
After breakfast, join your local leader on an orientation walk through town. Explore the maze of narrow cobblestoned streets and sun-speckled squares in Barrio Santa Cruz, also known as the Jewish Quarter and El Centro, then pass by the grand gothic-style Catedral de Sevilla - the burial site of Christopher Columbus and the Giralda - built as a minaret for the Great Mosque of Seville. After, you'll take part in a flamenco dance class. Learn how this cultural centre preserves the artistic heritage of dance, the history of the dance school and hear the stories of the teachers while you practice a few fun moves.
Accommodations: Nau Santiago 15 or similar
Special Information:
If you wish to visit the Royal Alcazar of Seville, it's recommended to pre-book tickets before the trip starts. It's advised that you book tickets after 3 pm on Day 2 of the trip. Please check https://www.alcazarsevilla.org/en/ for updated information on availability.
Day 3: Farewell Seville, Hello Grazalema
After breakfast, say goodbye to Seville and hit the road. Your first stop is a local winery near the city of Jerez. Here you'll have the chance to sample some locally produced sherry, accompanied by tasty Iberico tapas. After the winery, travel to Grazalema. The village sits in the foothills of the Sierra del Pinar mountain range and will be your base for two nights. Settle into your accommodation, a charming hotel located on a farm in the heart of the Grazalema Natural Park. Make the most of your stunning location this evening and enjoy dinner at your accommodation, made from produce grown on site and locally sourced.
Accommodations: Hotel el Horcajo or similar
Special Information:
Total travel time for this day will be about 3 hours.
Day 4: Pressed Perfection in Zahara
Travel to Zahara de la Sierra this morning. Perched on a hill and surrounded by mountain and reservoir views, Zahara de la Sierra is a charming village in Andalusia's famous olive oil region. When you arrive, visit a local olive farm to see how olives are grown and pressed, and taste the rich, flavorful oils that make this area so celebrated. Then, enjoy some free time to explore the region. Maybe visit the Castillo de Zahara de la Sierra and its Torre del Homenaje, or see the Santa Maria de la Mesa Church. Return to Grazalema where you'll have time to relax by the pool or take a walk around the Natural Park before another included dinner at your accommodation!
Accommodations: Hotel el Corcajo
Special Information:
Your travel time today will be approximately 1 hour.
*The Andalusian landscape is very hilly and mountainous. This trip is a great opportunity to discover remote villages, such as the Zahara de la Sierra. but some people may find the area's topography very demanding with steep hills.
Day 5: Ronda's Gorges, Glory, and Golden Sunsets
Leave Grazalema behind and travel by private transport to the Andalucian hills and the whitewashed town of Ronda. A landscape of green forests and white limestone mountains, Ronda is the birthplace of bullfighting in Spain and was a favourite of Hemingway and Orson Welles. The highlight of the town is the Puente Nuevo (New Bridge) - one of the most photographed structures in the country. Built in 1751, it bridges the 100-m-deep gorge that splits the town in two. You can walk across it, stopping to peer over a drop from one of its balconies. Check out the old Moorish town on one side, home to many historic buildings including the House of the Moorish King, and the newer El Mercadillo on the other side. East of the town are well-preserved Arab Baths and, of course, the famous Plaza de
Toros. Tonight, maybe watch the sunset over the city.
Accommodations: Hotel Maestranza or similar
Special Information:
Your travel time today will be approximately 1 hour.
Day 6: Explore Your Way Through Ronda
Your group has a free day to explore the beautiful town of Ronda - here are some optional activities to make the most of it! Take a walk through Los Molinos, Ronda's surrounding valley, and head down into El Tajo, the stunning gorge that separates the old and new town, for a breathtaking view of the iconic bridge from below. The Plaza de Toros is one of the oldest bullfighting rings in the country, with an adjoining Bullfighting Museum and gardens offering panoramic views over the surrounding mountains. For those who love food, don't miss the chance to join a hands-on cooking class and discover the flavors of traditional Andalusian cuisine - a truly memorable way to experience the local culture.
Accommodations: Hotel Maestranza or similar
Special Information:
The hike is free and can be added as an included activity, led by the tour leader.
Day 7: Granada's Old Silk Roads with Hilltop Views
This morning, travel to Granada - located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, Granada is known for its medieval architecture and hilltop fortress complex. When you arrive, walk through the historic Christian cathedral district and see the Moorish influence first-hand on an orientation walk with your local leader. The rest of the afternoon is then free for you to explore at your own pace - maybe wander through the Alcaiceria (old silk market area) or head to one of the small flamenco taverns around the city and see how the art form here differs from Seville's version.
Acccomodations: Hotel Monjas del Carmen or similar
Special Information:
Your travel time today will be approximately 3 hours.
Day 8: Feast Your Eyes and Feed Your Soul in Granada
Today, visit Granada's Alhambra Palace on a guided tour. Wander the dominating red fortress towers of this 11th-century complex set against the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada mountains. The palace is made up of the Alcazaba -the 11th century Muslim wing, which has great views from the towers - and the Palacio Nazaries and Generalife -the summer palace of the sultans. After, join a local tasting tour to treat your tastebuds to olla de san anton (white bean stew), tortilla del sacromonte (omelet) or piononos (syrupy sponge cake).
